Donald Lewis Skrovan of Port Aransas, passed away on September 4, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas, surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie E. and Angeline Skrovan; and sister, Linda Davis of Wharton, Texas.

Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Claire Russek Skrovan; son, Paul Skrovan (Traci) of Corpus Christi; and daughter, Katie Baker of Montgomery; his grandchildren, Cody Baker (Kayla) of Canyon Lake, Sydney (Max) Esgate of Corpus Christi, Rylee Skrovan of San Antonio, Abigail Baker of San Marcos, Brayson Skrovan of Corpus Christi, and Kristian Baker of Montgomery; and by three great-children, Miles & Tripp Baker, and Kayce Mae Esgate. He is also survived by his brother, Bennie E Skrovan Jr. (Beverly) of Wharton, Texas; and sister, Shirley McLeod of Stafford, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Donald, known as "Don" to friends and "Donnie" to family, was born on September 25th, 1943, in El Campo, Texas, and grew up in Southeast Texas in the Wharton area. He attended Wharton County Jr. College before transferring to Texas A&I University in 1965 where he graduated in 1967 with a degree in Agronomy. After college, Donald went to work for Texas Gulf Sulfur Company in New Gulf, Texas, before moving back to Kingsville in 1975 to work for Hoechst Celanese, where he spent the next 25 years until his retirement in 2000. After retiring from Celanese, Donald earned his real estate license and continued working as a realtor in Kingsville before moving to Spring Branch, Texas, in 2005.

Throughout his life, Donald's passion was the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting and fishing with friends and family; sharing his experiences and teachings with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. This passion led him to join the Brush Country chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA), where he served as secretary for several years. He also shared his love of the outdoors by writing for the Kingsville Record column "Land and Sea".

Donald took great joy in cooking, and his kitchen followed its own seasonal calendar — tamales, strudel, sausage, and gumbo, each in its time. He wasn't content to guess at a recipe; he sought out local experts to learn to make each dish right, then made it his own. His own sausage recipe became a tradition — on one occasion making over 800 pounds of sausage with his good friends— and one he passed down to his children, with whom he made sausage every year.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in High Hill. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the parish rosary to be prayed at 10:00 a.m. from the church. Interment will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in High Hill.
