Obituary

Services for Elroy James Wick, age 79, of Weimar, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Weimar. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg, with the rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m.

Elroy James Wick passed away on December 12, 2023 with his family at his side. He was born July 30, 1944 in Weimar, Texas, to Rudolf and Christina Kainer Wick. Growing up, he worked on the farm with his parents and many siblings, attended St. Michael School in Weimar, Texas and later Bishop Forest High School in Schulenburg, Texas. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church.

He married his wife, Anne Pokluda Wick of 42 years, on June 20, 1981, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Praha, Texas. They went on to have 2 children, Christopher Wick of Weimar, Texas and Catherine Wick Sylvester of Buda, Texas, and 5 Grandchildren.

Elroy worked as a Meat Processor for Kaspers Meat Market and Processing in Weimar, Texas for over 50 years. In his free time, Elroy enjoyed spending time with his family, going to dances, attending his grand children's events, or just sitting around the table talking and having a good beer. Elroy also had a passion for collecting and working on his and his son, Chris's, many John Deere Tractors, as well as working with his cows.

Elroy is survived by his wife, Anne Wick; son, Christopher and Sara Wick, daughter, Catherine and Trey Sylvester; grandchildren, Matthew, Lily, Hadley, Charlotte, and Annalynn; sisters, Lorene and Eugene Schramek, and Delrose Dixon; sisters-in-law, Grace and Betty Wick; brother-in-law, Donald Berger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolf and Christina Kainer Wick; siblings, Wilfred Wick, Evelyn and Vernon Mikolajczyk, Gladys Berger, Alvin Wick, and Clarence Wick; brother-in-law, Richard Dixon.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church or School.
