The funeral services for Mr. Erwin Mendel, age 81 of Schulenburg, Texas, will be held from the St. John's Catholic Church in St. John's, Texas, on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 10 am. Visitation will begin after 5 pm to the public on Thursday, with the parish rosary to be recited Thursday evening at 7 pm from the Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg. Interment will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, St. John's, Texas.

Survivors include: daughter-Loretta Henneke and husband Dan of Houston; sons Gary Mendel and wife, Sandra of Schulenburg; Greg Mendel and wife, Vivian of Smithville; sister Martha Schramek; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene; and 2 brothers.

The family requests donations be made to the St. John's Catholic Church in St. John's, Texas, or Hospice of South Texas, Hallettsville, Texas.
