Obituary

Gary Wayne Reaves of Killeen, age 66, died peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2014, following a long illness. His family members were at his side. Born in Houston, Gary grew up partly in that city and partly in the countryside and small towns of South Central Texas that he loved. In high school, Gary was an excellent baseball and basketball player, but his lifelong passions were fishing and hunting. After graduating from Cypress-Fairbanks High School in Houston in 1966, Gary joined the Houston Police Department. He spent almost three decades in law enforcement, including chief of police in Schulenburg and as chief deputy sheriff in Fayette County.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Clyde Reaves and Patricia Amy McCluskey Reaves. He is survived by his wife Sandra of Houston,; sisters Jackie Hays of Humble, Gayle Reaves-King of Fort Worth and Bonnie Pruett and her husband David of New Ulm, Texas; son Wayne of Killeen; daughter Michelle; stepdaughter Tracey Robison and stepsons Scott, Dusty and Donny Clark, all of Houston; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on August 9, 2014 at 11 am at the Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home Chapel, 701 S Main Street, Schulenburg, Texas. Those who wish may make a contribution in lieu of flowers to the Children's Advocacy Center of Fayette County, 1002 Chestnut Street, Bastrop, Texas 78602.
