Services for Hazel L. Kobersky, age 98, of Holman, will be held from the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Holman, Texas on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg with the parish rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery in Schulenburg.

She is survived by her four children, John E. Kobersky and wife Delores of Manvel, Texas; Donald L. Kobersky and wife Carolyn of Holman, Texas; Barbara Wampler and husband Austin of Smithville, Texas; and Marilyn S. Sims and husband Charles of Deer Park, Texas.   She had eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, John J. Kobersky, and by her parents, both of her sisters and her great-great-grandchild.

Hazel was born September 3, 1925, in Schulenburg, Texas, the daughter of Frank and Olga Doerrich.   She married John J. Kobersky of Holman, Texas, in 1942 prior to his departure to Europe for a tour of duty during World War II.  She lived in Fayette County after her marriage and until her death.  She was a homemaker while raising her family until 1974, when she began to work with Albers Hatchery and Feed in La Grange for almost 20 years.  She then joined the circulation department at The Fayette County Record and worked there many years until her retirement in 2014.

She was a long-time parishioner of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church of Holman, Texas and served on the church council, was a member of the Altar Society and the Christian Mother's Society.  She was a member of the St. Paul Fayette County Extension Club and held various offices during her 24-year membership.   Community service activities were important to Hazel and she was chosen as an Outstanding Senior Citizen for Fayette County in 1994.  Hazel had a passion for the elderly and visited nursing center residents and shut-ins and wrote many letters and cards to the elderly.  Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, and craftwork which she continued up until the last few months of her life, donating much of her handmade work to church and organization auctions and fundraisers.

As the long hot summer season changed to autumn on September 23, Hazel left us to begin a new season of her life in her eternal home.  She will be greatly missed here on this earth by her family and friends.
