Funeral services for Joan Schwartz Shimek, age 93, of Alvin, Texas, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia. Interment will follow in Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg, with the parish rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. from the chapel.

Joan is survived by her son, Patrick Shimek and wife Donna; daughter, Pam Thrash; son, Mark Shimek and wife Cynthia; daughter, Sandra Plaisance and husband Brian; daughter-in-law, Linda Shimek; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Shimek; son, Tim Shimek; son-in-law, Johnny Thrash; sister, Georgie Schilhab; and brother, Robert Schwartz.
