Leonard Andrew Korenek, a devoted husband, father, and hardworking man, peacefully departed this world on June 17, 2025, to reunite with his beloved wife, Dorothy Mae Thompson, who has been waiting for him with open arms. His journey was one of resilience, dedication, and love--a life well lived and deeply cherished.

Born on August 16, 1941, Leonard was the fourth child and first son of Czech immigrants in Dubina, Texas. From a young age, he embraced responsibility, working tirelessly on his family's cotton farm in the High Hill/Dubina parish. His commitment to hard work extended into his education, where he balanced studies with sports, playing football while attending Schulenburg Independent School District. Despite the challenges of rural schooling, Leonard made lasting connections and set the foundation for his future.

Following high school, Leonard ventured into the professional world, taking on diverse roles before securing employment with Rainbow Bread Company in Houston, Texas. In September 1960, he married his soulmate, Dorothy, and together they built a life filled with love and mutual support. Though life presented obstacles--such as his draft into the U.S. Army in 1966--Leonard met them with determination. His service at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, was marked by resilience, and after completing his tour, he returned to Houston to continue his career.

Leonard's professional journey led him to various leadership roles, including a management position in San Antonio, Texas. His perseverance never wavered, even as he navigated career transitions and societal changes. In 1973, he and Dorothy welcomed their greatest joy--their son, Robert--who became the heart of their world.

Throughout his career, Leonard displayed unwavering commitment, working with Foremost Dairies, Texas Southern Railroad, and OFI Testing Equipment, where he proudly served as accounting manager. His dedication to his profession and family exemplified his work ethic and strength. In his later years, he embraced retirement in Schulenburg, where he continued to pour his love into his family and community.

Leonard was deeply involved in his church and held active membership in several organizations dear to his heart. He was a proud and faithful member of the Knights of Columbus, including the 4th Degree, and gave his time and spirit to the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA). His service to these organizations reflected the values he carried throughout his life: faith, fellowship, and unwavering
patriotism.

Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Thompson Korenek; his parents, Vincent "Jim" Korenek and Marcella Herzik Korenek; his sisters, Joyce Terrell, and Mary Ann Schroeder and her husband Royce.

He is survived by his son, Robert Andrew Korenek, and wife Jeni; his precious granddaughter, Samantha, and her fiancé, Shawn. He is also survived by his brother, James Korenek and wife Nancy; sisters, Frances Sula and husband Ed, and Patty Kalich and husband Roy. Leonard leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends--all of whom he held close and loved deeply.

Leonard's life was a testament to resilience, love, and devotion. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and deep familial bonds. Though he has departed, his presence will be felt in the memories of those who knew and loved him. He is now at peace, reunited with Dorothy, and forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the parish rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. from the church. Interment will follow in Dubina Catholic Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Schulenburg American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Association.
