Funeral services for Leroy James Kahlich, age 90, of Schulenburg, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the parish rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. from the church. Interment will follow in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery in Schulenburg with full military honors conducted by the Schulenburg American Legion Post 143.

Leroy was born in Schulenburg, Texas, the first child of Leo V. Kahlich and Martha Polk, on May 18, 1936. They were living on the farm near the community of High Hill. He went to the parochial school at St. Mary, High Hil and then to St. Rose, Schulenburg. He graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1955 and then volunteered to serve in the U.S. Air Force, where he spent 10 years on active duty. Leroy served at various stateside Air Force installations, including F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming, Brooks AFB, San Antonio, James Connally AFB, Waco, and Barksdale AFB, Shreveport. He had three overseas assignments which included the Air Force installations in Morocco, Osan Korea, and Guam. His Air Force Specialty was a teletype technician. He received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1965 and took a Civil Service position with the Air Traffic Control in Houston, as a route mapping technician, until he retired from the Civil Service in 1991. He made his home with his mother in Schulenburg; and after her death, he maintained the family home in Schulenburg.

He valued time spent with his loved ones and was known for his gentleness, meekness, kindness, and generosity. He loved following various TV sports programs of football, baseball, gymnastics, and golf.

Leroy is survived by his brother, Monsignor Daniel P. Kahlich; brother, Leo V. Kahlich and wife Anne; sister, Clarice Zmeskal and husband David; nieces and nephew, Kimberley Zmeskal, Emilie Quigley, Melissa McAtee, Eric Zmeskal, and Carrie Braswell; and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James L. Kahlich.
