Obituary

Funeral services for Mary Jo Rebecek, age 85, of Schulenburg, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, from Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the rosary to be prayed at 10:30 a.m. from the church. Interment will follow in Dubina Catholic Cemetery.

Mary Jo Rebecek was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, employee, and most importantly, a faithful servant of God.

She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she lived and attended school. She often visited her aunt and uncle in Corn Hill, where she lived for a time with James and James Jr. They then moved to Sinton and, finally, retired in Dubina.

Mary Jo had a life of many jobs. As a child, she took in laundry with her mom and sister, worked side by side with her dad at Christ the King Church, Sokol Hall, and Moravian Hall, all in Corpus Christi. Later, she worked at a drive-in theater, Winn Dixie, and Handy Andy. She also volunteered at Christ the King School while her boys were enrolled there. While she, James, and James Jr. lived in Corn Hill, they owned and operated a general store.

After moving to Sinton in 1974, Mary Jo became the Assistant Administrator/Secretary/House Keeper/Cook at Sacred Heart Church. She was also the CCD Coordinator, on the Altar Society and a Eucharistic Minister for 24 ½ years. At her retirement, she was blessed by Monsignor Seamus McGowan, Father Finley, and all the parishioners with a Papal Blessing from Rome by Pope John Paul II.

While living in Corpus Christi and Sinton, there were many camping and fishing trips, lots of gardening and canning, and much singing and dancing to Czech music. She loved to speak Czech! Jak se mas?

In June of 1998, James and Mary Jo moved to Dubina to enjoy retirement, but that was short lived. On January 2, 1999, the Lord called James to be with Him in Heaven. In James’ absence, Mary Jo went to work at St. Rose School as a cook. It was there she met the bus driver, Charles Frietsch, who she married August 19, 2006. They enjoyed a too short, but full life together until he, too, was called to Heaven on March 8, 2016.

The last 10 years of her life, Mary Jo-Mom-Grannie enjoyed time with family and friends, especially the many friends she made living at the Schulenburg Regency Villas. She was full of love, and life, and laughter, all of which she freely shared with everyone she met. Heaven has truly gained an angel. She asked that we all keep her in our prayers and, because she dearly loved the Holy Family, in memory of her, just say, “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph”

Mary Jo is survived by her sons, James Richard Rebeck, Jr, and wife Donna, Raymond Joseph Rebecek, Ronald Jonathan Rebecek, and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Meredith Amanda Rebecek Henry and husband Trey, Elizabeth D’Lynn Rebecek and husband Tyler, Shelby Lynn Rebecek Louderman and husband Jonathan, Jeremy Wayne Rebecek, Jake Ryan Rebecek and fiance Shelby; great-grandchildren, William Briar and Evelynn Gail Louderman, Jace Michael Gray and Connor James Rebecek, Delilah James Henry; sister, Barbara Ann Miller; brother, Joe Cernoch and wife Linda; brother-in-law, Mark Rebecek and wife Virginia; sister-in-law, Helen Steinhauser; and a special grandson, Jan Hodan and family from Czech Republic.
