Funeral services for Michael Wayne Vornsand, age 75, of Hallettsville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the parish rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. from the church. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery in Schulenburg.

Michael Wayne Vornsand, 75, of Hallettsville, Texas, passed away on March 27, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1950, to George and Emma Vornsand.

Michael earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southwest Texas State University and taught high school math until his retirement, sharing his knowledge and humor with the many students he taught.

He was the hardest worker we have ever known and raised his daughters to be the same. He taught them everything they know, and they wouldn't be the strong (and stubborn) women they are today without him.

He was a true country boy, incredibly smart, logical, and quick-witted—always ready with something that would make you laugh or stop and think. There wasn't a project or problem in the world that he couldn't solve.

It is hard to imagine moving forward without him here—to call for help, to guide, or just to talk about the cows, the weather, or the kids.

Michael had a deep love for the outdoors and rarely sat still. He was always caring for his cattle or working on some kind of project. When he wasn't working on those things, he could be found with his grandkids.

The hardest part of this loss will be the heartbreak of his grandkids. He loved them more than anything, and they loved and adored him endlessly. Known to them as Pepaw, AKA "Peeps" he was always there cheering them on at their games, taking them on four-wheeler rides, searching for that beer-drinking gorilla at the creek, and spending time hunting and fishing with them. Some of their happiest memories will forever be tied to those moments.

Mike had a wonderful personality and was always ready with a quick joke. His sharp wit kept everyone on their toes and brought laughter to those around him. He also had many sayings that never failed to make his family smile, including "glad you got to see me," "careful is my middle name", and "I'm gonna head on to the poor farm".  He was also known for saying, "holler if you need something," a simple phrase that perfectly reflected the way he lived his life—always there for others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma Vornsand.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Lorfing (John), Susan Barnes (Ryan), and Lisa DeLeon (Doc); his beloved grandchildren, Dylan (Raynie) and Kylee Vornsand; Madilynn Barnes; Emma and Ella Lorfing; and Abree, Cainen, Daxton, Riggins, Ayzen, and Slaten DeLeon, who were the center of his world; his sister, Diane Thomas; nieces, Sandra Wilcox (Les), and Libby Thomas; great-nieces, Haley and Kinsley.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of family, and the simple, meaningful moments he created with those he loved. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
