Obituary

Retta Mae Kuehn (Graham), age 86, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. In those final moments, she was held close by the love of the family whose lives she had been part of for generations.

Born on November 29, 1939, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to James and Violet Graham, Retta moved to Houston with her family as a teenager. She was ambitious and hardworking, holding positions at Bell Telephone Company and Pepsi-Cola and working as a medical transcriptionist at Homestead Road Hospital.

In 1981, Retta met Allen Kuehn, the man with whom she would share more than four decades of marriage. They married in Houston on March 22, 1983, and began their life together in Allen’s hometown of Weimar, Texas, before eventually settling in Schulenburg, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with family, faith, and the everyday moments that become especially precious when we look back.

Retta was a woman of strong faith who found joy in the things she loved. She enjoyed shopping, especially for clothes, purses, and shoes, and she loved her Blue Bell ice cream. Long rides through the country brought her pleasure, as did the companionship of her beloved cat, Poppy. These details will always be part of how her family remembers her. They are the familiar pieces of a person we carry with us, the things that can bring a smile even when our hearts are hurting.

Above all, Retta loved her family. As a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt, her place in their lives reached across generations. To her family, she was so much more than the story that can fit on this page. She was Mom. She was Grandma. She was part of their lives in ways that will continue to be felt and remembered.

Retta is survived by her loving husband, Allen; her sons, James Roberts (Virginia), Mike Roberts, and Grady Hough; her daughters, Debbie Highberg (Paul), Beth Hough (Brad), Lisa Hough, and Jamie Clark (Joe Ben); and her son-in-law, Lance Wylie. She also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Violet Graham; her brother, Wesley Forse; her sister, Naomi Clements; and her daughter, Billie Wylie.

Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, from Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg. Interment will follow in Weimar Masonic Cemetery in Weimar.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from the chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Schulenburg Public Library, Alzheimer's Association , or a charity of your choice.

Her family will miss her deeply, in the big moments and in the ordinary ones when they wish they could call her, see her, or spend a little more time together. They will remember her on a country drive, over a bowl of Blue Bell, and in the stories they tell the generations who follow.

Rest peacefully, Grandma. We love you, and we will carry you with us always.
